The importance of
Eco-friendly Wood
for your projects

The name might still sound strange for some people, but the fact is, plastic wood- also known as eco-friendly wood- has been established in the civil construction market as one of the most sustainable, versatile and flexible materials. Efficient because of its diverse uses, and among all, for not damaging the environment, it has slowly conquered its place as an amazing alternative in regards to conventional wood, gaining status, new versions, and elegance. But, why is sustainability probably the biggest advantage of plastic wood? Its quality can be explained by the three pillars of this material. For the ecological sphere, it is a recyclable wood, which recovers raw material and avoids the incorrect disposal of industrial residues and Co2 emissions. Socially, it creates jobs and contributes with recycling cooperatives’ professionals. When it comes to the economic scope, it presents high durability, dismissing the need of constant maintenance.

Some differences between woods

Plastic/Ecological woods

  • Does not require any special treatment
  • Can be fixed with screws
  • Ideal for external areas
  • Does not need an Environmental Certification

Common woods

  • Goes through processes so it doesn’t get rotten
  • Can lose resistance if loose from its foundation
  • Using it in external areas can be harmful
  • Requires a certification seal, increasing costs even more

Plastic woods’ Manufacture and Installation

In a market that grows in about 50% per year, plastic wood has proven the construction sector that it is here to stay, whether it is because of its sustainability advantages, beauty, functionality or modern methods of production. Generally speaking, it is manufactured by using the mix of two specific materials: natural fibers or vegetables, and different types of recycled thermoplastics.Certain companies work with the remaining of natural wood and mix them to plastic residues, giving life to a process which is equally ecological.
As if all these advantages were not enough, plastic woods are easy to install, they don’t need specific tools, and the same techniques for traditional woods can be used on them. However, when it comes to installation, it is recommended to do it with the company itself or with specialized technicians. Another positive point relies on the use of each profile built up with plastic wood; it is possible to use this material on the same architectonical or landscaping projects in which traditional raw material in its organic form is used.

Different options and utilities

Since the demand for ecological wooden foundations for green architecture projects has been growing, manufacturers and/or national traders of this type of products, have focused on innovative industrial techniques, and especially, on pieces with modern designs and diverse uses. Among the items that are available today, it is possible to find plastic-wooden decks, cladding, trellis, suspension bridges, facades, brise-soleil, plinths, furniture, tiles, fences, among many others.
A variety of this type of material can also be found in companies that specialize in offering different product profiles. As a provider of materials for Vila Olimpica and affiliated to GBC Brazil, Madeplast is an example when it comes to commercializing plastic wood products, aiming to motivate innovative solutions as well as collaborating with the environment. Its portfolio is composed of different collections and divided into two different lines: Practical and Technical. For each of them, there are decks, suspended trails, trellis, and facades, in general.
